Leading the movement for Democracy in Housing since 1949

About Houston Black Real Estate Association

The Houston Black Real Estate Association (HBREA) founded in 1949, is the local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). NAREB, founded in 1947, is the oldest and largest minority trade association in America. HBREA was founded on the principle that all citizens have the right to equal housing opportunities regardless of race, creed or color.

Message From Our President - Michael Davis

At HBREA, we recognize that this is more than just an organization—it is a movement. Under the leadership of President Michael G. Davis, our mission is clear: to increase wealth in Black communities through homeownership, investment, and development, while elevating and empowering Black real estate professionals to thrive at every level of the industry.

President Davis reminds us that the fight for equity in housing and opportunity is not new. For over 77 years, NAREB has been on the front lines, advancing Black homeownership and cultivating professional excellence. Today, HBREA proudly carries that torch in Houston, ensuring that our members are not only represented but positioned to lead.

This vision is fully aligned with NAREB’s Five Pillars, which serve as the foundation for our work. Each pillar represents a strategic commitment to building wealth, opportunity, and advocacy within our communities:

  • Faith-Based & Civic Engagement – Partnering with churches, civic groups, and local organizations to promote homeownership and financial literacy.

  • Women Initiatives – W.I.R.E. (Women Investing in Real Estate) – Empowering and equipping Black women to become homeowners, investors, and leaders in real estate.

  • Diversity & Inclusion / Small Business – Creating pathways for minority-owned businesses and ensuring Black professionals are included in every facet of the real estate ecosystem.

  • Multi-Generational Wealth Building – Promoting ownership and investment strategies that secure legacies for generations to come.

  • Government Relations & Advocacy – Fighting for fair housing policies, access to capital, and representation at every level of government and industry decision-making.

By anchoring our mission in these Five Pillars, we strengthen our ability to impact Houston and beyond. Together, we will build more homeowners, more investors, more developers, and ultimately, more pathways to lasting wealth and opportunity.
