Message From Our President - Michael Davis

Dear HBREA Members, Supporters and Friends.

It is with great humility and a deep sense of purpose that I am honored to be the newly installed President of the Houston Black Real Estate Association (HBREA), the Houston chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB).

This is not just an honor—it is a responsibility. A responsibility to lead, to serve, and to build on the foundation laid by those who came before me. For 77 years, NAREB has been the driving force behind increasing Black homeownership and advancing the professional development of Black real estate practitioners. As a proud chapter of this historic organization, HBREA stands as the undisputed voice of Black real estate professionals in Houston. We are not just an association—we are a movement. A movement that champions Black homeownership, economic empowerment, and the professional excellence of Black real estate practitioners.

Our mission is two-fold:

  1. To increase wealth in Black communities beginning with homeownership. Because wealth begins with ownership but we won’t just stop there. We want more Black real estate investors and Black real estate developers.

  2. Also to elevate and empower Black real estate professionals. Because when we succeed, our communities succeed.

This organization was created to be more than a network. It is a force—driving change, building legacy, and ensuring that Black professionals in this industry are equipped, supported, and positioned for greatness.

As I step into this role, my focus is clear:

Number #1 -  Developing & Supporting Black Real Estate Professionals
  • We will invest in education, training, and mentorship so that our members are not just in the room but leading the conversation.
  • We will build a pipeline for new professionals while strengthening those already in the business.
  • We will ensure that Black real estate agents, brokers, developers, and investors have access to the tools and resources needed to be more impactful.

Number #2 - Expanding Black Homeownership
  • We will be relentless in advocating for fair housing policies, financial literacy, and access to capital.
  • We will increase the number of Black homeowners in Houston by ensuring they have guidance, representation, and opportunities.
  • We will champion more Black people to invest in real estate and for more Black people to build and develop communities.

Number #3 - Positioning HBREA as the Premier Organization for Black Real Estate Professionals
  • We are not just another real estate group—we are the real estate group.
  • We will set the standard for Black excellence in real estate, ensuring that our voices are heard in boardrooms, government offices, and community meetings.
  • We will demand our seat at the table—and when necessary, we will build our own table.

I extend an invitation—a challenge—to everyone. This is your moment to take action.

If you are not yet a member of HBREA and NAREBI encourage you to join us today. This is where you will find community, mentorship, and opportunities that can elevate your career and impact. This is where you will be part of a legacy that is shaping the future of real estate.

To our financial partners—I thank you for your support. And today, I challenge you to invest at a higher level. The work we are doing is too important to be underfunded. If we are to close the homeownership gap, if we are to truly create generational wealth, we need strategic financial backing. Not just sponsorships, but real investment in the future of Black real estate.

To our prospective partners— Partner with us, invest in our mission. If you are looking for a way to make a real difference, this is it. Let’s create lasting change together.

I accept this role with a full heart, a determined spirit, and an unwavering commitment to our mission. I am ready to serve, and I am ready to win. But I cannot do it alone.

So, I ask you—will you join us? Will you invest? Will you take action?

Because if we do this together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish.

Let’s get to work.

This administration’s theme is twofold, “Increasing Homeownership Through Advocacy,  Activism and Action” while “Building Wealth and Leaving a Legacy”. Both will serve to  answer  our National President’s call for 2 million new African American homeowners  over the  next 5  years.  We are at a very pivotal time in our nation’s history. It is  imperative that we not  only  regain the wealth loss, during the mortgage crisis. We must  carefully plan, so that it is  maintained and passed on to future generations.

HBREA’s first logo has been commissioned. The badge is our continued commitment to  protect  and serve Houston and the surrounding areas by our mission of “Democracy in  Housing”.

This administration’s effort will be one of inclusivity as our goal is broad and far reaching.  We will seek to engage  across    racial and industrial divides as real estate is the driving force of the American economy…its failures  and/or successes  impact us all.

Finally, I would like to say “thank you” to all the members, sponsors, family and friends who have and continue to  contribute to the success of this organization.

 In the Realtist spirit

 LaDonna Parker
